Someone You Know: Facing the Opioid Crisis Together
Opioid use disorder (OUD) has reached epidemic proportions across the United States. Sadly, stigma is often the barrier that prevents someone from seeking help or treatment. To combat this, inspire hope and humanize the disease of addiction, the Independence Blue Cross Foundation (Foundation) launched its “Someone You Know” public health awareness campaign. The campaign started by featuring ambassadors from Southeastern Pennsylvania who are in recovery, supporting a loved one in recovery, or grieving the loss of a loved one. The campaign quickly turned into a movement and the Foundation needed a way to amplify the powerful messages the ambassadors were sharing.
We worked with the Foundation to introduce and produce the “Someone You Know: Facing the Opioid Crisis Together” podcast, which shares intimate conversations with individuals who have first-hand experience with the opioid epidemic. The series breaks down misconceptions about those impacted by OUD, as Heather Major, Director of Foundation Programs, guides listeners through thoughtful discussions that explore the pain of addiction and the joys of a life in recovery. It has been accessed in 46 states and 22 countries, allowing the Foundation to connect with listeners far beyond the 5-county Southeastern Pennsylvania region in powerful, meaningful ways that aim to change the national dialogue on stigma.
We invite you to listen for yourself and join the movement.
